Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy covers both the Memento Jar mobile app (iOS and Android) and this website (mementojar.com), operated by 23 Degrees, LLC ("23 Degrees," "we," "us"). It explains what data is and isn't collected, who else touches it, and what choices you have.

Your memories stay on your device

The content you create in Memento Jar — text, photos, videos, and audio recordings — is stored locally on your device in a local database. We do not upload, sync, transmit, or have any access to that content, ever. There is no account required and no cloud backup built into the app, so if you delete the app or lose your device without a separate backup, that content is not recoverable from us — we simply don't have a copy.

Device permissions

Memento Jar requests access to your camera, microphone, and photo library solely to let you attach photos, videos, and audio to a memory you're creating. It also supports an optional PIN lock to keep the app private on your device; that lock — and the data verifying it — never leaves your device either.

Information collected automatically

The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (both Google services) to understand general usage patterns and diagnose crashes. This includes things like device type, operating system version, app version, general feature usage (e.g. which screens are opened), and crash/error reports. This data is about how the app performs and is used in aggregate — it is never linked to the content of your memories, which Firebase never sees.

Advertising

The app may display ads served through Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads). AdMob can collect device and advertising identifiers to deliver and measure ads according to Google's own privacy practices — see Google's Privacy Policy. A one-time in-app purchase is available to remove ads entirely.

If ads are personalized, iOS users will see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any cross-app tracking occurs, and can allow or deny it (or change the choice later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking). Android users can opt out of ad personalization at any time via Settings → Google → Ads → "Opt out of Ads Personalization," or reset their advertising ID from the same screen.

In-app purchases

Purchases (such as removing ads) are processed through RevenueCat and the Apple App Store or Google Play. We don't receive or store your payment details — those are handled entirely by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat, and are subject to their own privacy policies.

Who we share data with

We don't sell data, and we don't share your memory content with anyone, because we never have it. The only parties who process any data on our behalf, and only the categories described above, are:

• Google (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, AdMob) — usage analytics, crash diagnostics, and advertising.
• RevenueCat — in-app purchase processing.
• Apple / Google — as the app store platforms handling distribution and payment.

Data retention

Since your memories never reach us, there's nothing on our end to retain or delete for that content. Analytics and diagnostic data collected via Firebase is retained according to Firebase's standard retention settings, typically around 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.

Your rights and choices

Because we don't collect account-linked personal data ourselves, there's usually nothing tied to you personally for us to access, correct, or delete on our end. For data collected by our analytics or advertising partners, you can exercise your rights directly with them, or through your device's privacy settings as described above. International data transfers

Google and RevenueCat operate globally, so the limited data described above (usage analytics, crash reports, ad and purchase identifiers) may be processed in countries other than your own. Each provider maintains its own safeguards for this; see their respective privacy policies for details.

This website

This website may use Google Analytics to understand traffic (pages visited, general location, device type). We don't run ads on this website, and the contact page is a plain email link — we don't collect anything through a form.

Children's privacy

Memento Jar is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us data through one of our third-party services, contact us and we'll work to address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app or website changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
